You should be well hydrated before you take class. It is recommended that you drink at least half of your body weight in ounces of water throughout the day to maintain proper hydration, please plan accordingly. Feel free to bring water into class with you (water, coconut water, and vitamin water will be available to purchase at the studio as well). Please refrain from eating a heavy meal 2 – 3 hours before class. A belly full of food combined with yoga does not make for a pleasant experience.

Wear cool, lightweight clothing that is easy to move and sweat in. For women it is recommended to wear a sports bra/tank top and shorts. For Men wear workout, swim, or bike shorts and a t-shirt. Please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or strongly scented products in class. Clean feet are always appreciated and encouraged!

You will need a yoga mat and large towel to cover your mat during class (if you do not have these they are available for purchase/rent at the studio).

When you arrive…

Please arrive to our studio at least 20 minutes before class begins. To ensure that every student receives the most benefits from the class, no student will be allowed to enter class late.

When you arrive to our studio you will be greeted by our welcoming staff, meet your instructor, and get acquainted with our facility. You must read and sign a waiver-release form before admittance to class. The instructor will give you an overview of the class and answer any questions/concerns you may have. Please advise the teacher about any injuries or health problems during this time.

Your teacher will make sure you have the proper attire, mat, large towel, water, required for class. All other items (shoes, purses, cell phones, keys, etc.) must be left in the locker room or in your car. BYRC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

The instructor will help you get set up in the yoga room and make sure you are in the best location.

Do your best to follow the instructions given by the teacher. Everyone, even the most experienced practitioner will feel challenged by the yoga. Always listen to your body. Take a break and even sit down if necessary with your head above your heart and eyes open. Please stay in the yoga room during the entire class, you will acclimate to your surroundings better this way and the teacher can keep a caring and attentive eye on you. It is normal to feel dizzy, nauseous or lightheaded. This is a temporary sensation as your body is adjusting to the detoxification process. You will soon feel rejuvenated, reenergized and looking forward to your next class!

During the conclusion of class please take time to relax and observe silence. This is an important part of your yoga experience. The final savasana is a time for your body to reap the benefits if the 90-minute class. Always allow your teacher to exit the room before you do. Please do not step over other students or drip sweat on your neighbor. Showing respect for your fellow yogis is such an important habit to develop from the very start.

Collect your things and exit the yoga room quietly. Check back in with your teacher at the front desk before you leave. New students will be given a gift upon the completion of class!

After Class…

It is common to feel more energetic after class and you may experience what is commonly referred to as a “yoga high.” Drink plenty of water and replenish your electrolytes. Take your second class within 24 hours in order to minimize soreness. You can practice this yoga as much as you like, rest days are not necessary. Maintaining a regular practice (at least 3 times per week) will ensure that you to receive maximum benefits of Bikram yoga.

See you at the studio!
